Flight tracker shows who took the most private jets and people are shocked

A flight tracker shows their ranking of which celebrities, influencers and wealthy businessman were taking private jet flights during 2023 – and it has surprised social media users.

With a growing interest towards climate change, people are starting to take notice at how much they travel by plane.

Well, at least the average person is looking at their impact on the environment, but celebrities and the ultra-wealthy might not necessarily be doing the same.

The Myclimate Carbon Tracker recently shared their data ranking of celebrities that have travelled the most via private jets.

The environmentally-focused Swiss company explained on their website how they work out how much a person is travelling via private jet.

“The myclimate Carbon Tracker uses public domain flight trackers and social media posts from influencers and celebrities to list flights, collect emissions data and also post critical, direct queries on social media.” it states.

“The results are made visible in a large carbon ranking.”

“When someone’s tagged in a picture drinking champagne in Las Vegas one day and then posts from Lloret de Mar the next, the myclimate Carbon Tracker springs into action.” he added.

He continued to say that their ‘service’ consists of an ‘automated post on their Twitter or Instagram profile’ to ‘draw attention to the account’s CO₂ emissions and includes a link to our emissions calculator’.

“There they find a critical look at their travel habits, as well as a suggestion that they donate to climate protection projects.”

However, because of their use of public data for ‘ethical reasons’, the list is more of a ‘rough ranking’ which intends to ‘raise awareness for an extended travel behaviour and the problems it causes for our planet’.

“Some of these people don’t even do world tours, like where do they fly to??,” one person said.

Another had the same idea, writing: “Where are they all going?”

Someone else just said: “Yikes,” while a fourth commented: “Oh i didn’t expected [sic] this list.”

However, one user pointed out that American businessman Paul Allen, who died in 2018, was mentioned on the list.

The website says that they ‘do not claim that the numbers in their rankings are 100% accurate’ due to the method of data collection they use.

It is also not clear whether his name featured due to the possibility that a jet which belongs to him is being used instead.
